How Do You Cut a Ziploc Bag With a Hot Knife?
According to his TikTok video, all you have to do is place a sandwich bag flat on a wooden cutting board and heat a sharp, non-serrated knife over an open flame. He used a gas stove, but a lighter or even a candle would work.
Once the knife blade is hot, you carefully and slowly slice through the bag. The heat from the metal blade will seal the plastic edge and you'll end up with two snack-sized bags that are great for holding things like nuts, chips or even office supplies like paper clips. This trick doubles the number of bags you have so that you don't have to use as many sandwich bags.
Heating a knife over an open flame can take several seconds, and there's no magic number to aim for. Knives made of thinner metal will heat up faster and a stronger flame (like from a gas stove) will heat the knife faster than a weaker flame (like a candle or lighter).
It's also important to note that heating a knife over a flame can damage it, so you don't want to use an expensive knife for this hack.
"I can't even with that Ziploc bag trick. Amazing! Thank you!" someone commented on the TikTok video.
"No way! I can't wait to try it," another person said. It's a really easy hack that can be a game-changer for some people. We can't wait to use this same trick, either!
"That's the best thing since sliced bread!" someone chimed in. It's definitely a cool trick!
