His eldest two girls deactivated their social media accounts in light of the shocking announcement. However, none of his family members have spoken out about the situation.
Amid the scandal, allegations of infidelity from some of Grohl’s former partners have since resurfaced online.
Grohl dated snowboarding pioneer Tina Basich for nearly two years in the late ’90s and the athlete claimed in her 2003 memoir that he cheated on her.
Basich explained that the “pressure” of their respective careers “was too much for [their] relationship to handle” — and it didn’t help that the rockstar was allegedly two-timing her.
She continued, “I don’t know how anyone in his profession can have a normal relationship with a girlfriend…or two, as it turned out. I found out secondhand, through the grapevine, when it seemed like everyone else in the world knew about it but me.”
The snowboarder said she was “so disappointed and pissed” at herself for believing Grohl’s alleged lies and getting “sucked in” to his world.
“Breakups suck. But Rockstar exits are the worst,” she told readers. “All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of me calling and trying to get ahold of him because I just had to know if these rumors were true and had to hear it straight from the source.”
Prior to Grohl’s relationship with Basich, he was married to first wife Jennifer Youngblood. The pair wed in 1994 but called it quits three years later.
The reason for their divorce is unknown.
