In June 2022, Taylor Frankie Paul — the creator of a content group on TikTok known as #MomTok — revealed in a livestream that she was getting divorced from her husband after engaging in “soft-swinging” with other coupled-up Mormon friends.

“The whole group was intimate with each other. Tate has made out with several girls and other things, and I’ve made out with all of the husbands and vice versa,” Paul said. In the same livestream, she confirmed that she had gone beyond the soft-swinging agreement and cheated on her husband with her now-boyfriend, Dakota.

Paul’s confession turned the spotlight onto the other members of #MomTok, who all denied being a part of the soft-swinging parties, but revealed that Paul and her now ex-husband were doing “everything but sex” at these parties.

All of this took place before the series pilot was filmed, so the show deals with the aftermath and fallout from that livestream.
