Fever Announcers Facing Backlash Over Puzzling A'ja Wilson Mistake

Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson set the new all-time single-season WNBA scoring record with a pull-up midrange jump shot just before the halftime break of Wednesday night's matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

The jump shot gave Wilson her 12th point of the game and her 941st of the 2024 WNBA season — passing Jewell Loyd's previous record of 939.

Everyone knew Wilson was just 11 points away from the record heading into Wednesday night's contest. But when she hit the shot to make history, the WNBA League Pass broadcast made no reference to the achievement.

Indiana play-by-play man Pat Boylan and lead analyst Debbie Antonelli are both facing serious backlash on social media for this puzzling mistake.

"The W has awful infrastructure. Announcers, Schedules, Branding, TV deals. 2025 season will be a massive upgrade," one fan wrote.

    "Terrible broadcasting," another said.

"They don’t appreciate A’ja," another added.

Wilson has absolutely dominated the league in her seventh WNBA season. The two-time league MVP is the clear frontrunner for her third MVP trophy, averaging a league-leading 27.3 points along with 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

Wilson and the reigning-champion Aces lead the Fever 49-45 with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Fever and Aces will face off in another primetime matchup on Friday night.
