San Diego, CA – Southern California will experience a significant cooling trend and gusty winds as a stronger onshore flow spreads inland over the coming days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The marine layer will deepen, bringing cooler temperatures and an increase in coastal low clouds, while areas of the mountains and deserts will see heightened fire weather conditions due to dry winds and low humidity.

Gusty Winds and Critical Fire Weather Conditions

The NWS has issued a fire weather alert for parts of the region as gusty southwest to west winds, reaching 30 to 40 mph, will combine with critically low daytime humidity levels of 5 to 10 percent in the deserts and on the desert slopes of the mountains. These conditions, forecast for Wednesday afternoon and early evening, create an environment conducive to the rapid spread of wildfires.

The gusty winds are expected to ease by Thursday, with the fire threat diminishing as humidity levels rise. However, officials urge residents in affected areas to remain vigilant due to persistently dry vegetation.
