NFL Analyst Advises Giants to Trade for Former No. 2 Pick to Replace QB Daniel Jones

Quarterback Daniel Jones could be on his last legs with the New York Giants , and suggestions on players to replace him are flying right and left ahead of the team's Week 2 matchup with the Washington Commanders .

A common idea is to let backup Drew Lock step into the starting role after showing flashes with both the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks over his four-year NFL career.

But Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report authored a more outlandish and potentially more unpopular pitch on Wednesday, September 11 -- a trade for former New York Jets No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson .

"Wilson ... is behind both Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham on the Denver Broncos depth chart. While Nix didn't exactly have a stellar NFL debut, Wilson could be viewed as an expendable trade chip," Knox wrote . "The Giants might also want to consider their quarterback options after another disastrous performance by Daniel Jones ( 22-of-42, 186 yards, 2 INTs ). New York has an experienced backup in Drew Lock, but it needs to start considering its long-term options."

Jones is 22-37-1 as the Giants starter over his six-year career and has failed to live up to a four-year, $160 million extension he signed in March 2023.

Wilson, meanwhile, failed to an even greater degree in the Big Apple than Jones has after the Jets drafted him in 2021. Wilson was just 12-21 as the starter over his three seasons in New York, finishing his time there with just shy of 6,300 passing yards, 23 TDs and 25 INTs .

It is unlikely the Giants will make a switch under center ahead of this Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Landover, Maryland. However, if things get ugly, fans could see Lock against the Commanders defense at some point during the afternoon.

They may also end up on the lookout for the Giants potentially adding another QB either via free agency or trade as early as next week. If New York does decide to pursue Wilson, he likely won't cost the franchise more than a late Day 3 draft pick or potentially a Day 3 pick swap.
