2 surprises appear on Minnesota Vikings injury report, could be huge losses in Week 2 vs. 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings are riding high after their week one victory over the New York Giants. It sent them up multiple power rankings across the league and looks much better than most thought they would.

That high could result in a major crash in week two against the San Francisco 49ers who won their week 1 game on Monday night against the New York Jets. They are currently 5.5 point favorites via DraftKings Sportsbook, but they were bigger favorites last season when the Vikings won the game 22-17 .

Minnesota Vikings have surprises on injury report

The initial injury report came out on Wednesday afternoon and there were a couple of surprises for the Vikings.

    • WR Jordan Addison (ankle): Did not practice
    • OLB Andrew Van Ginkel (foot): Did not practice
    • C Garrett Bradbury (knee): Limited
    • WR Jalen Nailor (ankle): Full

Two of those players are somewhat surprises. We knew that Addison was going to be a major question mark due to his second ankle injury and Nailor did play, but it's no surprise to see him on the report. It was a surprise to see both Bradbury and Van Ginkel on the report.

Bradbury being limited could just be a precaution. He did play all 55 snaps against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon and with him being a veteran, it could just be head coach Kevin O'Connell playing it safe. Van Ginkel is somewhat of a surprise, but the Vikings did pull him from the game when it was out of reach as a precaution because he spent the entire offseason healing form a foot injury.

San Francisco 49ers nursing major injuries

The 49ers come out of Monday night's game in worse shape than the Vikings.

    • DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee): Did not practice
    • LB Dee Winters (ankle): Did not practice
    • OG Aaron Banks (finger/calf): Limited
    • S Talanoa Hufanga (knee): Limited
    • WR Jauan Jennings (ankle): Limited
    • RB Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles): Limited

The biggest one on the list is McCaffrey who has been a massive difference maker for the 49ers and has elevated the offense to another level. They didn't miss him that much as Jordan Mason took the league by storm with a massive performance akin to what we would see from Kyle Shanahan's dad Mike with the Denver Broncos.

Arguably the next biggest one is Jennings. They are already without wide receiver Ricky Pearsall as the first-round pick is recovering from being shot right before labor day. Jennings is a major factor as a blocker in the running game and has developed as a power slot in the passing game.

We will know more as the week progresses but both teams have real concerns heading into a pivotal week two matchup.
