Tyreek Hill had a whirlwind of an opening NFL Sunday.

The Dolphins' star wide receiver was the biggest news story coming out of Week 1. Hill was detained by Miami-Dade Police after he was pulled over for a speeding violation. He was en route to his team's season opener against the Jaguars when he was handcuffed during a traffic stop.

Miami welcomes its first AFC East opponent on the 2024 schedule Thursday night, with Buffalo traveling down to South Beach to face the Fins. The Bills won both meetings between the division rivals last season, helping Buffalo overtake Miami for the AFC East title.

Hill was an asset in Week 1, but will he be back on the field for Week 2? Here is what to know about his status.

    Is Tyreek Hill playing today?

Hill does not have any designation attached as the Dolphins get set for "Thursday Night Football" against the Bills. He is expected to be the No. 1 wide receiver for Miami when the contest kicks off at Hard Rock Stadium.

Despite being detained just hours before kickoff, the speedster still suited up for the Miami opener, a 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill wasted no time picking up where he left off last season, bringing in seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.

Why did Tyreek Hill get detained?

Hill was officially cited for careless driving and a seatbelt violation after reportedly speeding on his way to Hard Rock Stadium. The police citation revealed he was going an "estimated 60 mph," according to a "visual estimation."

The South Florida Police Benevolent Association released more details in a statement Monday, clarifying that Hill was never under arrest but rather "briefly detained for officer safety."

The police union claimed Hill was "not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene" after being pulled over for "driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger."

Video captured officers handcuffing Hill and placing him on the ground, and one officer had his knee on the receiver's back at one point. Other Dolphins players came to the scene to help Hill, and defensive lineman Calais Campbell was handcuffed as well at one point but not charged.
