Memphis Grizzlies guard Derrick Rose was once one of the NBA's most electrifying players. During his 2011 MVP season, Rose averaged 25.0 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, leading the Chicago Bulls to an outstanding 61-21 record.

Although injuries shortened much of Rose's prime, his time with the Bulls continues to be celebrated when discussing NBA history from that era. Rose was a star even before the NBA, with one of the most iconic high school mixtapes in basketball history.

Doncic calls Rose's high school tape the best

Born and raised in Chicago, Rose became a basketball prodigy in high school before being selected first overall by the Bulls in the 2008 NBA draft. When asked recently by Overtime, who had the best high school mixtape ever, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic didn't hesitate to name Rose.

"D-Rose," Doncic said while admitting that he didn't watch many basketball mixtapes on YouTube growing up.

Players like John Wall, Austin Rivers, Zion Williamson, and Andrew Wiggins have famous high school highlight reels. Yet, Rose's mixtape still holds legendary status. A standout player long before his NBA debut, Rose quickly became a game-changer in Chicago.

    Rose's enduring legacy

Now entering his 16th NBA season as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, Derrick Rose's impact on the game continues to resonate. Even as his career winds down, his legacy as one of basketball's most thrilling players lives on, with younger stars like Doncic paying tribute to his early brilliance.
