Arsenal head into their weekend Premier League derby at Tottenham on the back of a major boost with Mikel Arteta agreeing a contract extension at the club.

Arteta has opted to extend his bond with the Emirates Stadium until 2027 as he looks to end the Gunners two-decade wait for an EPL title this season.

The Spaniard has secured successive second place finishes in the last two campaigns losing out to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on both occasions.

However, as the gap between the two teams narrows, Arteta has been backed to push on and secure a major trophy for Arsenal in the coming months.

A trip across North London is always a huge fixture for both sets of supporters and the Arsenal faithful will be buoyed by Arteta's recent record against their old foes.

    Mikel Arteta's Premier League stats

Arteta became the fourth fastest EPL manager to record 100 top-flight wins in April as his side won 3-2 away at Spurs.

That feat was reached after 169 games, ahead of Arsenal's iconic former boss Arsene Wenger, who needed 179 matches to reach the century.

Alongside his first-to-100 rate, Arteta also now has a higher win ratio than Wenger (albeit based on a much shorter period in charge) at 59.23% across all competitions with Wenger on 57.25%.

Going into the derby, Arsenal fans will be eager to know his record against Spurs, and he already has a better early return than Wenger, based on his first nine EPL games against them.

From those nine, Arteta has won four, including two successive away victories, whilst Wenger's first nine EPL clashes with Tottenham from 1996 to 2000 featured just three wins.
