PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Last time in walked into the Steelers locker room as a new player, safety Terrell Edmunds was a first-round pick. There were high expectations coming out of Virginia Tech in 2018. Now it’s a 27-year-old with an opportunity to kind of restart his career.

Edmunds was with Jacksonville during training camp, was released on cut-down day and then re-signed to the practice squad. He played a little strong safety in the Jags first game and then bumped back down to the practice squad. That’s when the Steelers decided they wanted more depth on their active roster.

Now it’s about showing where he fits. The team spent $6 million on a two-year deal with safety DeShon Elliott and he had an interception in his first game with the Steelers. Damontae Kazee has worked as the third safety and Beanie Bishop is coming of a ‘really good start for an undrafted rookie’ Sunday in Atlanta according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

“However they need me,” Edmunds said Wednesday. “If it’s defense, special teams to start off, however they want to do it. I’m just going out there willing to put everything on the line for my teammates.”

Edmunds said he felt love the minute he walked back into the UPMC Rooney South Side facility. His locker is on a different side of the room. He has a new number and is trying to get up to speed at whatever position they would need him, as he said, including special teams.

“It’s still an adjustment always, but I’m feeling comfortable with the system, feeling comfortable with my teammates,” Edmunds said. “Just coming out here and giving everything I got.”

Edmunds said last year reinforced his ‘never quit’ mentality. He called it a long year as he was traded and spending early 2024 with the Jags before his release and then practice squad designation. There was no denying the smile on his face when standing back in the Steelers locker room. He knows the surroundings, knows most of the people. It’s now just adjusting to whatever they need and wearing number 38 instead of five years wearing 34 in black and gold.

“Never burn a bridge, both sides stayed in constant communication and you know there is always love,” Edmunds said. “They are the ones that made my dreams come true. At the end of the day, I’m definitely thankful for that.”

“I’m going to come out here and give everything I can. They gave me another opportunity to be on the 53. Let’s do it.”
