'Waste of Time!' Tomlin Reacts to Questions on Justin Fields vs. Russell Wilson

Justin Fields had a solid outing as the starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers in an 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Quarterback Russell Wilson is still reportedly hurt, so Justin Fields will again be the starter for the Steelers.

Tomlin was asked at his Tuesday press conference if Wilson would return as the starter once he’s healthy.

“Speculation is a waste of time,” Tomlin said. “Russell’s hurt. He’s not available to us. As you guys know, as a general practice, I focus my energy on those that are available and their readiness.”

Wilson battled a calf injury most of training camp, and as the season approached, he was ready to go …. Until he wasn’t.

The calf injury flared back up and Fields started practicing with the first team just a couple of days before the regular season opener ... and didn’t know he was going to start for sure until Sunday.

On Tuesday, Fields was named the starter for this week’s matchup against the Denver Broncos and will get a full week of practice with the first-team offense.

The Steelers will be playing the Broncos on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium at 4:25 p.m. ET.
