When Decider spoke with Emily in Paris creator Darren Star ahead of Season 4, Part 1’s release, he promised that Part 2 would be “Part 1 on steroids in every way. Drama. Locations. Romance. Everything.” And boy did he deliver.

Now that the final five episodes of Season 4 are out, we know the “everything” he was referring to includes a jaw-dropping cameo from the one, the only, Brigitte Macron!

Since Emily in Paris first premiered in 2020, some real-life Parisians have criticized, poked fun at, and even got angry over the show’s portrayal of life in the city, calling it cliche and stereotypical. But four seasons in, Emily in Paris did the unthinkable and not only secured a heartfelt, weighty, humorous endorsement from wife of France’s president Emmanuel Macron, but the cast welcomed her on the show for a delightful cameo as well.

Will There Be An ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 on Netflix?

Emily in Paris Season 4, Episode 7 kicks off with Laurent’s (Arnaud Binard) daughter Geneviève (Thalia Besson) and Emily (Lily Collins) ducking out of work for a long lunch, where they spot Brigitte Macron dining at a nearby table.

“I know this is gonna sound like totally crazy,” Emily tells Geneviève. “But she follows me on Instagram.”

Mere seconds later, Emily is hovering over the first lady’s table saying, “Bonjour, Madame Macron!” Macron excuses her security guard so Emily can have a casual chat — or attempt to, anyways, as her French is still rusty as hell. And once Netflix’s leading lady introduces herself, Macron exclaims, “Emily, it’s you!” Because of course she does!

Who is Geneviève on ‘Emily in Paris’? Meet Thalia Besson, Luc Besson’s Daughter

Macron tells her dining companions, “I follow her on Instagram,” and after Emily tells her she loves her country, the first lady says, “And my country loves you, Emily.” BOOM!

What happens next? Well a classic Emily Cooper selfie to cap off the encounter, of course. And the hashtags #FirstLadiesWhoLunch and #makeiticonic.

So beautiful. So iconic. So ridiculous. So Emily in Paris.

If you’re wondering how on Earth Brigitte Macron ended up on Emily in Paris , join the club! Collins told Elle that the 71-year-old former teacher’s cameo has been in the works for years, explaining, “The idea … came to us when Darren Star and I met her at the Élysée Palace in December 2022…She is a big fan of the show and took the mention of her in Season 1 with great humor. This scene in season four is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honor and a real joy.” Apparently, Macron even wore her own clothes to shoot the scene!

For those who need a refresher, Emily in Paris Season 1 shouted out Macron for sharing one of Emily’s social media posts. The first lady never appeared on-screen, but four seasons in, Emily in Paris stuck with the story and assured fans that Macron is still a big fan of Emily’s Instagram.

For those wondering whether or not France’s president Emmanuel Macron has Emily in Paris FOMO, fear not! While he didn’t appear on-screen in a cameo like his wife, he was mentioned in a Season 4, Part 1 joke about “banning” Dry January from France.

The cameo is a major win for Emily in Paris , and a reminder that just like its main character, when met with haters, this show just keeps thriving!

Emily in Paris Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
