Dejan Lovren will continue playing for at least two more years after agreeing to sign for Greek side PAOK.

The Croat left Liverpool in 2020 after six years with the Anfield club, spending two and a half years with Zenit St Petersburg before joining Lyon in January 2023.

Lovren was a regular for Lyon during the second half of the 2022-23 season but played just 11 times for them last term, prompting his move to a new club.

PAOK won the Greek Super League last season and will play in the Europa League this term after failing to make it into the Champions League through the play-off route.

Lovren will compete against one of Liverpool's old rivals in the league phase of the competition after being handed a trip to Manchester United in November.

During Lovren's time at Liverpool, he struck up a close friendship with Reds legend Mohamed Salah , and the pair's bond became evident when the centre-back left Liverpool four years ago.

"It was something special," Lovren said of his friendship with Salah. "But, it's like I have always said, it's just the beginning of a big friendship. Even when we will be far apart, he knows he can always call me, whatever reason. "I am always here for him. It's about friendship inside and outside the dressing room."

Salah, meanwhile, admitted at the time that he was going to miss his friend: "I don't know how to say, my friend. I don't know my feeling right now, but we are going to miss you. Especially me.

"You have been an unbelievable player and great friend to me. We are going to miss you a lot. I miss you a lot. I love you so much, and you have been fantastic on and off the pitch. Thank you for everything you have done for the club, and everything you did for me."
