$10 Challenge Henderson: Walking Into Roberto's Taco Shop With $10 in My Pocket

Eating out in Henderson can be an expensive proposition.

But it doesn’t always have to be that way.

If you’re willing to shop around a little, you can find a good deal.

    But how good?

Is it $10 at Roberto’s Taco Shop good?

    Let's find out.

    $10 Challenge

The rules for this challenge are simple:

    • Nothing but a $10 bill in my pocket. No more money coming from anywhere.
    • It must include the 8.38% sales tax.

    Roberto’s Taco Shop Henderson

Roberto’s Taco Shop has a 60-year history of serving great Mexican food nationwide.

It’s also been wildly popular in Henderson since expanding to the area.

The menu is full of all the authentic Mexican food people love.

    My Plan

The 8.38% sales tax leaves me with $9.22 before taxes. Less if I want to leave a tip.

The menu has plenty of options at that price point.

Unfortunately, their famous combination plates are not an option since the cheapest one is $11.40.

Also eliminated due to their price are:

    • Chimichangas
    • Enchiladas and Quesadillas (unless you are a vegetarian)
    • Most Burritos

Thankfully, there were plenty of food options that I liked.

Breakfast burritos (all except carne asada)

    • Potato ($7.55)
    • Bacon ($8.55)
    • Ham ($8.55)
    • Sausage ($8.55)

    Burritos

    • Bean W/ Cheddar Cheese ($5.10)
    • Beef ($7.00)
    • Chicken ($6.70)
    • Mixed ($7.25)

    Tacos

    • Beef (Shredded) ($3.95)
    • Chicken ($3.70)
    • Carne Asada ($4.90)
    • Carnitas ($4.90)
    • Adobada ($4.90)
    • Fish ($4.70)

    My Choices

I immediately eliminated all tacos other than beef and chicken since I would need at least two, which would be too expensive.

    Breakfast Time

I would go with the Sausage Breakfast Burrito for $8.55, which would leave me 73 cents for a tip after taxes.

    With Drink

If I were thirsty, I would go with a Chicken Burrito ($6.70) and an Aquafina ($2.50).

Unfortunately, that would leave me with only 3 cents left to tip.

    Extremely Hungry

If you’re extremely hungry, there probably aren’t any great options under $10.

Their combination plates will fill you up, but they range in price from $11.40 to $20.05.

    Final Thoughts

Eating at Roberto’s Taco Shop for $10 or less is definitely possible but challenging.

If you’re not on a silly $10 challenge, try their Carnias Combination Plate; it always fills me up.

I used to eat at the Carson City location 3 times a week. Now with the increase in prices I haven't been back in months. The food does not warrant the increased expense.
