    Drivers mourn loss of discontinued ‘Italian stallion’ sedan – latest victim of car ‘revolution’ sweeping away old models

    A LUXURY sports sedan has been ripped from American dealerships – it’s the latest vehicle to succumb during a massive shift in consumer vehicle sentiment.

    The Italian sports sedan, produced by Stellantis , came in several high-performance gas versions, including a nimble V8.

    Maserati discontinued the Ghibli sedan in 2024.

    The Ghibli was a four-door sedan with a range of luxury options .

    Drivers could opt for a powerful V8 speedster that sprinted to 60 mph in just over four seconds.

    The car’s pure speed inspired the moniker “Italian stallion,” according to Hot Cars .

    Shoppers hoping for more efficiency could purchase a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain instead.

    Both sedan iterations featured a wide range of high-class options, such as soft-close doors and a cabin air filtration monitor.

    The Ghibli’s equipment competed with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles.

    But the Ghibli wracked up a price point that expanded into the six-figure range. Drivers paid between $85,300 and $122,000 for the sport-inspired car.

    The price became a central problem for some of the vehicle’s biggest critics.

    “There’s no way its price can be justified based on build quality and features,” one driver wrote in a post on X.

    “Even European buyers have had enough.”

    The luxury sedan was part of a giant shake-up for the Italian sports brand in 2024.

    The Ghibli joined the Quattroporte as Maserati sedan options that went the way of the dodo bird.

    The U.S. Sun contacted Stellantis for comment on this story. The company didn’t immediately respond.

    But the discontinued sedans are part of a larger trend in the US automotive industry.

    Dozens of car companies have continued to move away from producing cars on small platforms, including sedans.

    They’ve also shifted away from producing V8 engines as auto manufacturers bump against their environmental pledges.

    According to Motor1, there are 20 cars that won't make it to the 2025 model year, including sedans, some SUVs, and sports cars.

    Cars that are on the chopping block for next year are:

    • Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (sedan)
    • Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (SUV)
    • Audi A4 (sedan)
    • Audi A5 Coupe/Cabrio (2-door sedan)
    • BMW X3M (SUV)
    • Bugatti Chiron
    • Chevrolet Camaro
    • Chevrolet Malibu
    • Fisker Ocean (EV)
    • Ford Escape
    • Jaguar F-Type
    • Maserati Ghibli
    • Mitsubishi Mirage
    • Mini Clubman
    • Nissan GT-R
    • Nissan Titan
    • Ram 1500 TRX
    • Toyota Supra (4-cylinder)
    • Volvo S60

    For example, Stellantis’ American-based pickup brand, Ram, will shutter production of its 1500 TRX, a V8-powered performance truck.

    The company also shuttered production of the Dodge Challenger, opting for a more streamlined lineup of Charger-branded products.

    The shift away from sedans has hit dozens of other companies, too.

    GM’s Chevrolet no longer produces a sedan after halting production of the Malibu.

    Its cheapest car is now the Trax , a small crossover SUV.

    Ford made similar cuts, discontinuing the Focus, Fusion, Fiesta, and Taurus sedans in recent years .
