Concern Grows for NFL Coach Following ESPN Star’s Blunt Comment

Being a head coach is a tough gig.

It can be a position where you are expected to fulfill the requirements but be overlooked by many, or it can be a role where a lot of pressure is present due to the number of expectations placed upon a team with loads of talent.

The latter is where head coach Robert Saleh happens to be in. This is especially the case as he is coaching a Jets team boasting the likes of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Besides the big names, New York possesses plenty of talent in multiple positions as they have aspirations of competing for a Super Bowl, especially with Rodgers commanding the offense with his experience.

Of course, it is easier said than done. After missing Rodgers last year after he tore his Achilles in the season-opener, he made his grand return this past Monday against the San Francisco 49ers but it was clear that there was a little bit of rust in his game as the team fell 32-19 to last season's Super Bowl runners-up.

Not all of the blame can be put on Saleh, but he certainly takes a good portion of it. Since taking Jets coaching job 2021, he has posted an 18-34 record with the previous two seasons having the team finish 7-10. While the record is better than the 4-13 showing he had in his first year, it is far from the level the team wants to get to if they are to compete for a championship.

Because of the Jets' inconsistencies under Saleh, this has prompted questions about his job security, with ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky inserting his take into the conversation.

During ESPN's Get Up show earlier this morning, the panel discussed their expectations heading into Week 2. For Dan Orlovsky, he has his eyes on the Jets and Vikings for one particular reason, Saleh himself.

"There is no coach in the NFL with more pressure on them this weekend than Robert Saleh," Orlovsky said .

With a team that boasts the aforementioned star players, especially with Rodgers close to full strength after playing his first full game as a Jet, Saleh must figure out how to refine the edges of the team. Otherwise, he might be on the hot seat sooner rather than later.

The Jets and Vikings will face one another on Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. ET.
