During this week’s episode of NWA Powerrr, Jeremiah Plunkett captured the National Wrestling Alliance Mid-America Championship, becoming the first man to hold the belt in almost 40 years.

The belt, which was announced to be resurrected earlier this year, is one of the most iconic in wrestling history. Throughout its history, the title has been held by numerous wrestling legends, including Buddy Rogers, Harley Race, Randy Savage, Jackie Fargo, Jeff Jarrett, and more.

On Tuesday’s episode of Powerrr , Plunkett defeated contenders from three other NWA -recognized promotions to take home the belt, and was emotional after.

“It’s been a long road to get here,” said Plunkett after his win . “Becoming a champion in the National Wrestling Alliance has been a life-long dream. And I never dreamed I would win the Mid-America title — a championship which meant so much to generations of fans in my home state of Tennessee!”

The title was last held by the legendary Jerry “The King” Lawler, and was shelved about 35 years ago during various changes to NWA’s ownership and territory control. Lawler’s third reign started in December 1987 and he held it for 343 days before it was deactivated in November 1988.

“Wrestling for the National Wrestling Alliance is all I’d ever wanted to do,” Plunkett shared. “I’d worked my entire career to be there, and that was taken away from me…like I wasn’t good enough.”
