Kentucky man leads officers on multi-county chase, tries to run officers off road before being arrested

A Kentucky man who led law enforcement on a multi-county chase Tuesday morning is facing a heap of charges. Here is what we know from the Frankfort State Journal:

• Two Frankfort police officers were observing traffic on Collins Lane at 9:50 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Carlos Williams, 39, reportedly disregarded a stop sign at the Leawood Drive intersection. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to pull over.
• Williams abruptly stopped the Honda Odyssey he was driving on Bluegrass Avenue causing the police cruiser to rear-end his van and then allegedly took off at a high rate of speed and turned right onto Collins Lane, where he reportedly traveled across the center lane and split between two vehicles. After turning left onto Louisville Road, Williams disregarded a red light and cut off oncoming vehicles before turning left onto Carson Place and speeding through a business area.
• As the chase made its way west on I-64, assisting agencies blocked all exits and spike strips were deployed at the 43-mile marker, but Williams was able to avoid them. He reportedly also tried to run officers and Kentucky State Police troopers off the roadway. Spike strips were again deployed near the 28-mile marker and were successful. The van proceeded through a construction site, nearly striking workers before coming to a stop near the 27.2-mile marker.
• Williams was arrested and taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared before being transported to the Franklin County Regional Jail.
• Williams is charged with first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer) and first-degree fleeing or evading police, all Class D felonies; no operator’s license, a Class B misdemeanor; and reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign, disregarding a traffic control device (traffic light) and failure to produce insurance card, all violations.
