The Kansas Jayhawks and UNLV Rebels are both coming off nine-win seasons in 2023 and the programs will go head-to-head on Friday in a rematch of the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix. Why Kansas can cover

After a winless COVID season under Les Miles in 2020, Lance Leipold has slowly built Kansas football back into a respectable program. The Jayhawks went 9-4 in 2023 and finished ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2007. That includes the bowl win over UNLV where Jason Bean threw for 449 yards and six touchdowns. Bean was forced into action last season and played well when starting quarterback Jalon Daniels suffered a season-ending back injury.

However, Daniels has returned to action in 2024 and combines with running back Devin Neal to form one of the most dynamic backfields in the Big 12. Neal has already rushed for 3,290 yards in his career at Kansas and is only 552 yards shy of braking June Henley's 29-year-old career rushing record at KU. The Jayhawks have covered the spread in five of their last six against Mountain West opponents and they'll look to get their season back on track at home on Friday. See which team to pick here .

    Why UNLV can cover

The Rebels are also coming off a historic season, reaching nine wins for the first time since an 11-2 season in 1984 that was later vacated by the NCAA. Barry Odom's first year in charge feels like a lifetime removed from UNLV's own winless season (0-6) during the COVID year and now he has even bigger aspirations in the Mountain West and beyond.

With starting quarterback Jayden Maiava leaving for USC in the transfer portal, Odom turned to Matthew Sluka to run his offense. In two games, Sluka has thrown for 232 yards and five touchdowns with one interception and he's currently the team's leading rusher with 129 yards on the ground to go along with one touchdown. The Rebels have covered the spread in their last seven games on the road and are 11-4 against the spread over their last 15 games. See which team to pick here .
