Could Browns Reunite With Tight End?

The Cleveland Browns took a beat down at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. To add insult to injury, starting tight end David Njoku injured his ankle and could miss considerable time moving forward.

While they did sign Geoff Swaim to their practice squad, Bleacher Report believes they could make a trade to reunite with a former player.

“It would be premature to suggest the Raiders cannot contend in 2024. However, their 22-10 loss to the rival Chargers in Week 1 certainly was not encouraging,” B/R wrote.

“On a positive note, rookie tight end Brock Bowers (six catches, 58 yards) looked and played like an NFL star in the making. It’s already clear that Bowers will be featured heavily in Luke Getsy’s offense, and Las Vegas has a strong No. 2 tight end in Michael Mayer.

“With Harrison Bryant also on the roster, Las Vegas has a surplus of receiving tight ends. Bryant, who had 791 yards and 10 touchdowns in four seasons with Cleveland, should draw some interest if offered on the trade market.

“A reunion in Cleveland would actually make a ton of sense in the wake of David Njoku’s Week 1 injury.”

The Browns drafted Bryant in the fourth round back in 2020 and he spent the last four years with Cleveland before signing with the Raiders in the offseason.

In his four years in Cleveland, Bryant tallied 89 receptions for 791 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bringing him back to Cleveland in an offense he knows for the most part, would make a lot of sense for a team that has nothing else at tight end.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry is likely examining all options for the position as the week continues.

The Browns head to Jacksonville on Sunday to play the Jaguars at 1 p.m. ET.
