How the Patriots are trolling the Seahawks this week for rematch of all-time Super Bowl collapse

The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots have had some historic battles in recent years. The last time they met was Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season, when Russell Wilson and Cam Newton fought an epic shootout that went right down to the wire, ending in a 35-30 win for Seattle. In 2016 they had another thrilling clash, one that saw Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski play through getting his lung punctured when Earl Thomas launched himself at his chest like a missile. The Seahawks won that one, as well.

Of course the Patriots got the best of Seattle in their most-famous matchup, which took place 10 years ago in the Super Bowl. With seconds to go in the game at the one-yard line, Russell Wilson threw a slant intended for wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, a pass that was intercepted by New England cornerback Malcolm Butler to win the game in what has become the most-famous play in Super Bowl history.

The Patriots are apparently in the mood to make the Seahawks and their fans relive that heinous memory this week. The team has invited Butler back to be their "Keeper of the Light" ahead of the game, which is New England's equivalent of having celebrities and franchise legends raising the 12th Man flag.

As for this week's matchup, these teams are radically different than the last time they met. Both have proven stout defensively thus far, but the Seahawks are favored by 3.5 points on the road and most experts are predicting they'll come out on top on Sunday.
