Meet your next cat: Five cats you can adopt right now

Did you know that this month is National Preparedness Month? It is--so be prepared to be dazzled by five terrific cats. All these guys and gals are available to adopt from local Kansas City animal shelters. Just click on the link to learn more about them and to get in touch with their respective shelters.

    Pot Pie

Hey, wait a minute, there are two cats in this picture.Photo byFriends of Parkville Animal Shelter

First up, from the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS), is a tabby kitten named Pot Pie. Pot Pie has big expressive eyes, and it's hard not to fall in love with the little guy. Just look at the pic above. Here's another one so you can get a sense of what he looks like when he's not covered in cozy:

Pot Pie is a sweet, playful boy whose kitten goodness will fill you up like a hearty meal. Like all kittens, Pot Pie would be happiest with others of his own kind, the feline kind, to chum around with. He does have siblings at FOPAS you can bring home with you if you're currently catless.

You can learn more about Pot Pie by filling out FOPAS' pre-adoption applicaiton here. Kittens as cute as Pot Pie tend to go fast, so you can check to see if he his still available by going here.

    Maxi

Let's give it up for the senior ladies out there, like Maxi, a nine-year-old from Great Plains SPCA. Maxi is a charming, gray-haired beauty who would love to be your friendly shadow if you give her half the chance. This girl loves attention and will cherish all the loving you can give her. She'd do best in a home without young children who might not be as gentle as they should.

You can learn more about Maxi here.

    Summer

Summer, from Meowy Matchmakers, looks like she's ready for some seasonal "pumpkin spice" tuna treats. Delicious! She is the calmest of her litter, letting her wilder siblings have their fun first before she steps and starts to play. A kitten this cute with subdued kitten craziness? Sign me up! Padme

Padme, from The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA), is a ten-year-old orange and white cat who loves people but barely tolerates other animals. Speaking of tolerating, you might remember her sister Leia from a couple of weeks ago. Both are named after Star Wars characters. If you don't follow Star Wars (I had to look it up), Padme is Luke Skywalker's dad, the Natalie Portman character. Sadly, Padme and Leia had to be given up to TARA because of their families' allergies.

Padme has a thirst for the outdoors, and it can be difficult to open the front door without her trying to sneak out. Are you up to the challenge? Her wanderlust actually got her in trouble. She caught FIV, usually transmitted during catfights, during one of her outings. FIV is a risk for all indoor/outdoor cats, but because of it, it'd be best for her to be the sole cat or to live in a home with other FIV+ cats.

You shouldn't take her desire to get out of the house personally though. In fact, she's very friendly. She is a world-class purrer, she'll come to you when called, and will stare at you lovingly while you watch your shows. She's a real sweetheart. If you want to learn more about Padme, visit her Petfinder page.

    Sailor

Last but not least is a cute calico from Caws Pawjamas named Sailor. Sailor was found abandoned in a park by a couple, walking their dog. She wouldn't leave the pair alone, meowing and meowing until they helped her out.

Sailor would be best in a home without kids, especially without young kids, and generally would prefer a quiet environment. It might take some time for her to warm up to you, but she's a purr factory once she does. Also, she's still a youngster at about nine-months-old, so you've got plenty of time to become her best friend. You can learn more about Sailor here.

That's all for this week. Want to look at more cats? Check out my profile here. Many of the cats featured on past posts are still available!

If you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, please consider a donation directly to the shelters and rescue organizations that take care of these guys:
