Cardinals could target Rays infielder to bolster offense for 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals are a team that will need an offensive boost in 2025, especially if they don't make it to the postseason this year. If they were to fall short, it would be their fifth October without playoff baseball in the last nine years.

Preferably, St. Louis needs a power bat in their lineup. Derrick Goold noted that if St. Louis wants to add a bat, they will likely do so by means of a trade rather than a free agent signing.

Thomas Gauvain of FanSided proposed the idea of trading for Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe.

Lowe is hitting .245 with 17 home runs, 50 RBI, five stolen bases, and an .803 OPS with Tampa Bay this year. One issue the Cardinals may run into here is that they have an influx of left-handed bats, two of which are second basemen like Lowe.

The 30-year-old would give St. Louis a boost offensively though. He has power and the team needs that in their lineup for 2025 if they want to bounce back into contention. But they might be best served looking at a right-handed bat.

This season, the Cardinals have struggled against left-handed pitching, and another left-handed bat might not be terribly beneficial if they want to improve on that, even if Lowe produced at a high level.

It will be interesting to see what St. Louis does this offseason and if they'll be in talks with the Rays to acquire the veteran second baseman.
