WRIC 8 News reported that a new store has opened at Stony Point Fashion Park at 9200 Stony Point Parkway, Richmond, VA 23235.

The new store at the outdoor shopping center joins more than 30 Richmond-based businesses.

    The new store

Recently, Love Mila Brand became a new addition to Stony Point Fashion Park. The new store was founded by Jamila Johnson, who has more than 16 years of experience designing African-inspired waist beads, high-quality jewelry, and apparel made to encourage beauty and empowerment.

    About waist beads

According to Love Mila Brand's website, waist beads are an ancient African art form that traditionally symbolizes a woman’s progress in life. They serve as an indicator of weight changes without obsessing over a number on the scale. The colors have specific meanings and serve as a daily reminder for women to continue working to be the best version of themselves while feeling beautiful in the skin they are in.

    According to Wikipedia:

"Waist beads are jewelry worn around the waist or on the hips. Women traditionally wear them to symbolize beauty, femininity, well-being, or maturity."

Waist beads are commonly made of glass, metal, crystals, gemstones, charms, wood, or plastics; they are typically strung on cotton thread, twine, wire, and elastic or non-elastic cord. The colors and materials have a symbolic, cultural, or personal significance for the wearer. Waist beads are commonly used for health tracking, such as weight loss.
