Joe Mixon had a debut to remember in his first game with the Houston Texans last weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.

After earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his big performance in the season opener, all signs point toward Mixon continuing to eat with his new team.

"There's not many in the NFL that can handle that, there's not many offenses that can run the ball to the same guy 30 times over and over and over again every week," offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said on Thursday. "I'm not really worried about [Mixon's] workload in that regard. He's done that before and he's built to do that."

Mixon lead the NFL with 30 rushing attempts in his first game with the Texans, two more than the next closest back. He added three receptions for 19 yards through the air as well. His 178 scrimmage yards also led the entire league in the opening week.

Clearly the change of scenery has paid off for the veteran running back and it sounds like the offense is going to utilize him even more going forward.

"I feel great to be appreciated here and to play a big part in what we do," Mixon said . "I'm [going to] just do whatever is asked of me as a player... You know, be the best teammate and leader that I know how to be. I'm just happy that I'm on this side now."

Sunday's game was the third instance of Mixon's career in which he surpassed the 30 carry mark on the ground. The last time he reached that mark, he rushed 28 times the following game, a sign he's willing to handle that load whenever it's asked of him.

"We'll give Joe the ball as many times as necessary," Slowik added. "Every game is going to end up playing out different. In that game, it was a 30 carry for Joe and when you have 30 carries and you're averaging over four [yards], or in this case five [yards], a carry, it's a heck of a day."

Continuing to feed Mixon will be a big part of the game plan going into the team's Sunday Night matchup against the Chicago Bears. In the Bears Week 1 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, the Titans eased up on the run game in the second-half (16 carries in the first half compared to 10 in the second half) and ultimately lost.

The Texans will be looking to feed Mixon all game long while continuing to look for the big plays downfield created by their dominant wide receiver trio.
