Singer and TikTok sensation Lizzy McAlpine has stood by her decision to not include opening acts for her tour.

Lizzy spoke exclusively with The Mirror while performing at Broadway's Elsie Fest. During our chat, she opened up about her tour - which has been running since April 21 and concludes on October 31 - and why she made the controversial decision to not include any opening acts. She admitted the decision primarily had to do with her mental health.

"I love giving opportunities to small artists. I try to do that whenever possible, but this time around, I feel like I had to kind of make a decision for myself and my mental and physical health and well being because touring is very difficult for me," she told us.

She then went on to say it was "the only way" she could tour.

She continued: "And so I think I did what I had to do to make it easier for me. I wanted to be able to tour. So this was the only way I could do it. And it's been a good experience for you being on tour this time is so fun. It's with my band and everyone it's, it's amazing."

Lizzy first disclosed that she would likely not be including any opening acts on her tour in February. In a since deleted video resurfaced by an archive account, she said: "Currently I have no opener, If all goes well, I will continue to have no opener. Multiple reasons. One: I wanna go to bed early. I wanna be in bed at like 11."

She said the second reason was "because it makes everyone's life easier" as the crew doesn't have to swap out equipment between sets and stay later. Fans had mixed reactions to the controversial decision.

One fan in favor of her decision wrote, "more concerts should be earlier i agree so much." Another added: "yes please and look the openers are talented but i get so sleepy sometimes just waiting…" Others felt it took away an opportunity for smaller artists to gain exposure. "But also opening is how a lot of small artists get discovered so I hope all artists don’t do this," one wrote. "very cool but also takes away the opportunity for small acts to reach a bigger audience / for fans to discover new artists, another said."

Lizzy has also commented previous remarks she has made about taking a step back from TikTok. Explaining her new posting routine, she told us: "I just think that TikTok is weird and I post when I want to and I don't really give it that much thought because I don't, that's not the, the place that I feel like is gonna really grow and cultivate a really deep and meaningful connection to my music."

"So it's just fun for me and I don't take it too seriously," she said.

She also discussed the experience of writing and recording her third studio album.

"It was amazing. It was the first time that I've made music that feels authentically like me really deep down in my soul. And so to make it and put it out how people react to it in the way that I hoped they would and just, it feels very validating," she said.
