Ewan McGregor Teases Return as Obi-Wan

After Ewan McGregor said Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to have a movie , the actor has reiterated he's definitely down to reprise his role in the Star Wars universe.

McGregor, who first played a younger version of the iconic Alec Guinness character in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace , said he’s ready and willing to enter the Star Wars universe once more.

“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” he tells Variety . “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”

We last saw McGregor as the elder Jedi in 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi . Now, 25 years on from his first appearance, he’s around the same age Guinness was in 1977’s Star Wars . “I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man,” he says. “Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge — if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”

McGregor starred with Hayden Christensen, who played his apprentice Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith . Could the pair ever reunite? Christensen, for one, is up for it. “If it means that I got to do more with Ewan,” he said, “then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character. Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan — he’s just so good at it.”

Today, fittingly for the Star Wars legend, McGregor receives his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
