Baby Italian Greyhound’s ‘Screamy Yawns’ Are Enough To Put a Smile on Anyone’s Face

Puppy yawns, regardless of breed, are the sweetest little things in the world. There is nothing better. Every time a puppy yawns, an angel gets its wings or something, I just know it.

The only tiny improvement some puppy yawns could use is the fact that not all of them are squeaky. Squeaky puppy yawns are the best of the best! Luckily for us, one dog parent shared a video of their Italian Greyhound puppy on Monday, September 9th, and he couldn't possibly be any cuter:

Yeti the Iggy has my heart forever. Squeaky yawns will get me every time!

Yeti is a baby baby: he just landed in his forever home at the end of July! Exactly two days after that, his mom knew she had a star on her hands and posted his very first video, which garnered 1.4 million views. Suspicions confirmed: Yeti is meant to be a star!

Since coming home, we've gotten to watch him start to grow up. While he's already changed a ton, one thing he has yet to grow out of are his adorable scream-yawns. His mom says he blesses her with them all throughout the day; he's a very sleepy boy! Growing is hard.

Do Dogs Grow Out of Squeaky Yawns?

Yet's just a tiny baby. He still has approximately a year left of growing to do before he reaches full maturity. When that happens, he'll lose his puppy fuzz in favor of a silkier coat, and he'll still be pretty small. Italian Greyhounds are less than half the size of regular Greyhounds!

Puppies often squeak when they yawn because they haven't built up all of their vocal strength yet, so they can't always control all of the sounds they make. As they grow and their vocal cords mature with the rest of their bodies, their barks will deepen and they can, unfortunately, lose the involuntary squeaky yawn.

However, that's not always the case: when you yawn, you're pushing air up and creating vibration in the vocal cords, regardless of control or how old they are. Some dogs will squeak while they yawn for their whole lives. Others may make noise while they yawn sometimes, especially if they're bored and trying to whine about it.

Overall, if your puppy is a screamy/squeaky yawner, you have a good shot at hearing it all throughout their lives. If they never squeak, you might not. It's up to your puppy, and it can change on a dime!
