"Showtime" Ohtani keeps making plays that bring him closer to setting Major League single season records. In the Dodgers' Wednesday night game against the Chicago Cubs, Ohtani hit his 47th home run in the first inning along with his 48th stolen base in the second inning.

Rehabilitation from his elbow injury is keeping the one and only "Showtime" from pitching most of the season, but it hasn't stopped him from having a record-setting batting year. Not only did he add another home run to his single season record, but it was his third fastest homer clocking 118.1 mph. His two best homers were clocked at 118.7 mph. His Wednesday night homer traveled approximately 405 feet at a 19 degree launch angle.

With 17 games left, he has 3 home runs and 2 stolen bases to go to become the first Major League player to hit 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Ohtani is also in contention to become the first player to win the MVP award as a full time designated hitter. However, it wouldn't be his first MVP award as he has won the Major League Most Valuable Player award twice before.

The LA Dodgers manager Dave Robers stated , "Him being able to take down 600 plate appearances has been very big for us. And he's having an unprecedented season."

Not only did Ohtani hit a home run at the bottom of the first inning, but so did his fellow teammates Tommy Edman, Will Smith, and Max Muncy. Back-to-back home runs for this team easily landed the best inning the Dodgers have had all season.

They play their next four game series on the road at Truist Park against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers are seeded No. 2 in the National League Division Series. It's projected they will play either the New York Mets or the Milwaukee Brewers in the division series.
