On the evening of Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, 62-year-old singer Jon Bon Jovi was on Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, for a music video shoot. It was then that he noticed a woman in the middle of the span, standing on the outside of the railing and on the ledge.
Moving Into Action
Rather than ignoring her, Bon Jovi went toward the woman. Since the woman was apparently in the midst of a mental health crisis, he spoke with her, persuading her to come off the ledge and back onto the bridge deck, lifting her to safety. Jon Bon Jovi kept talking to her and kept his arms around her to ensure she was safe until help arrived, thereby saving the woman's life. The entire incident was caught on video and was previously published on YouTube before being removed.
Praise For His Quick Thinking
The woman who was in mental distress is unidentified for the time being, but Nashville's chief of police, John Drake, praised the singer's selfless and fast actions. The chief said, "It takes all of us to help keep each other safe." An edited video showing Jon Bon Jovi and the woman walking off the bridge together was shared on X.
"A shout out to @jonbonjovi & his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tue night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety," Chief Drake wrote in the caption. Several media outlets have tried contacting Bon Jovi, but he has refused to provide any comments or interviews regarding the incident.
A Long History Of Altruism
This certainly wouldn't be the first time Jon Bon Jovi has demonstrated commendable compassion for others. Without much fanfare, he has quietly been doing deeds of benevolence and humanitarianism for at least thirty years. The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation does charitable work worldwide and runs the Soul Kitchen locations in New Jersey, United States. The kitchens serve nutritious, gourmet meals without prices, with a suggestion of donations. Those unable to pay are encouraged to volunteer.
The JBJ Soul Foundation also provides job training programs, housing assistance, and other social service programs for those affected by poverty. Bon Jovi himself went viral on social media when someone shared a picture they snapped of him washing dishes at one of his own Soul Kitchen restaurants in 2021 during the pandemic, when help was hard to find.
