Dolphins rule out Raheem Mostert, make De’Von Achane active for ‘Thursday Night Football’

The Dolphins will be without Raheem Mostert (chest injury) for their “Thursday Night Football” showdown with the Bills at Hard Rock Stadium but don’t expect him to be out for long.

Mostert was the Dolphins’ leading rusher in 2023 but only had six carries for nine yards in the season opener against the Jaguars on Sunday.

The star was still dealing with the chest injury this week and missed practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, the issue isn’t expected to be a long-term injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Mostert is not expected to go on the injured reserve, and the NFL insider indicated that the running back “should be back sooner rather than later.”

Fellow running back De’Von Achane, who had also been a question mark all week with an ankle issue, will be playing Thursday, per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

It will be the second-year running back’s 13th NFL game since he was drafted by the Dolphins in the third round last year.

Against the Jaguars in Week 1, he had seven catches for 75 yards and ran for 25 yards with a touchdown on 10 carries.

Even with Achane in, rookie Jaylen Wright is expected to be active for the game, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

He was inactive for Week 1, but in an interview with the Miami Herald published Thursday, Wright was confident he would make the most of any opportunity.

“Preparation creates opportunity, so just me being prepared and being ready for whenever that moment comes,” Wright said. “I’m fully confident that I’m going to take advantage of that opportunity.”

During the preseason, Wright rushed for 91 yards and scored a touchdown on 17 carries in two games.

He dealt with a lower-leg injury following the Dolphins’ preseason contest with the Buccaneers on Aug. 23.

Veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. could also be an option for the Dolphins after he ran for 26 yards on five carries in Week 1.
