CHICAGO - Chicago police are investigating two home invasions that followed armed robberies early Thursday morning on the city’s Southwest Side. Both incidents occurred within minutes of each other and have left residents shaken.

The first incident took place around 1:25 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Kolin Avenue in the West Lawn neighborhood. Two male suspects, both armed with guns, approached a 20-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman sitting in their vehicle. According to police, the assailants demanded their property.

Yesica Segura, the woman involved in the incident, explained that she was preparing to leave for work with her son when the robbers confronted them. “They said, ‘give me your money, your belongings. Don’t do anything; we’re going to shoot you. We’re going to kill you,’” Segura recounted, describing the experience as a nightmare.

The suspects then forced Segura and her son to return to their home. Once inside, they entered her mother's room, waking her and taking her jewelry. Segura's brother, awakened by the commotion, emerged from his room armed with a gun. "All I heard was my brother saying, 'just get down. Get down.' He has a concealed weapon. So, he ended up shooting, as well," Segura said.

A bullet hit a front window of the home during the exchange, but no one was injured. The suspects fled the scene following the gunfire, and police recovered a gun. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.

Segura expressed her gratitude for her family’s safety, saying, “I'm so thankful to God for his protection in the middle of all that chaos and all that gunfire.”

Approximately 15 minutes later, in a separate incident less than two miles away, a 17-year-old boy was targeted in the 3300 block of West 59th Place in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The teenager was exiting his vehicle when a black SUV pulled up behind him. Two armed suspects approached and demanded his property before forcing him into a home, where they stole additional items.

The suspects fled in the SUV, and no arrests have been made. Area One detectives are investigating both incidents, but police have not yet linked the two events.

Chicago police have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant as the investigations continue.
