Josh Allen has 'second coming of Travis Kelce' at disposal despite Bills exodus

Josh Allen could have another star teammate in the mold of Travis Kelce just waiting to blossom with the Buffalo Bills this season.

During the offseason, the Bills saw the departures of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs and star running back Gabe Davis, with the former being traded to the Houston Texans and the latter signing a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With two major pieces of the Bills' offense gone , many believed Allen and Buffalo would falter.

However, former tight end Tony Gonzalez believes there is a star waiting to be utilized this season: Dalton Kincaid. Speaking before the Bills' Week 2 matchup with the Miami Dolphins, Gonzalez had massive praise for Kincaid's ability despite being in just his second year.

"I'm going to go back to what [Richard] Sherman was saying," Gonzalez began before Buffalo's matchup . "If he is that guy, if you're one of the best in the league, behind Patrick Mahomes , and then you, which I believe [Allen] is, then this is where they get the ultimate test.

"Gabe Davis is gone, Stefon Diggs is gone and now he's going to have to have other guys step up and he does have talent. And I want to talk more about their tight end from last year, their first-round pick from last year - Dalton Kincaid. I really like this guy; He reminds me of No. 87 out there in Kansas City."

Gonzalez then ran through a handful of plays with Allen and Kincaid as the main pieces, noting how the second-year tight end's instincts are often not seen by players so young. Gonzalez also heaped praise on Kincaid's ability to read defenses and react accordingly, likening him to Kelce.

"I think he's the second coming of a Travis Kelce-type player but he only had one catch for 11 yards last week," Gonzalez continued. "They got to get him the ball and get it on first and second down so they can't double and triple team him. This guy is a true talent."

In his first season with the Bills, Kincaid showed flashes of his skill. Kincaid started in 11 games last season, hauling 73 receptions for 673 yards, breaking the record for most receptions by a tight end in a single season and most receptions in a rookie season.

How head coach Sean McDermott will utilize Kincaid and his skillset remains to be seen. For now, Allen will have to rely on him and rookie Keon Coleman to make leaps if Buffalo wants to dethrone Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs atop the AFC.

However, Allen noted that he was impressed with what he's seen from Coleman and believes the rookie out of Florida State will be integral to what the Bills are trying to do without Diggs.

"I think his play style [is] what we needed in our offense," the star quarterback told NFL Network in May. "Talking with our offensive coordinator [Joe Brady], our quarterbacks coach [Ronald Curry], [general manager] Brandon Beane and, obviously, coach [Sean] McDermott, a guy that's a big-bodied guy and can go win one a back-shoulder fade and not afraid to be a physical wide receiver.

"I think you pair him with some of the guys we have in our room right now, I think Mack Hollins has been such a great addition so far to that room with his mentality, his mindset is infectious to others. Curtis Samuel, he's been showing up every single day ready to work. You start pairing those guys up with Dawson [Knox] and Coleman in this mix now, we're gonna have a pretty solid group that works together."
