Tagovailoa sustained the head injury with about 4:30 remaining in the third quarter. The Dolphins quarterback took off on a scramble at the start of the play, before lowering his head into the chest of Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

Tagovailoa's neck bent awkwardly upon contact. He then fell to the ground, with his arms appearing to seize. He was escorted to the locker room.

Tagovailoa completed 17 of 25 passes for 145 yards, a score and three interceptions. The quarterback, who signed a $212.4 million contract extension this off-season, sustained two documented concussions during the 2022 NFL season, but started all 17 games in 2023.

Skylar Thompson is the only other quarterback on the Dolphins' roster.

The Dolphins will face the Seattle Seahawks in their third game of the season Sept. 22 in Seattle.
