Jonathan Kuminga Goes Rodman: 'Legally Blonde'

    By Lance Roberson,

The Golden State Warriors need a major change from Jonathan Kuminga, but perhaps he misunderstood what they meant. In a recent workout, the Warriors forward's new hairstyle surfaced . Kuminga dyed his hair, and he either is trying to summon the defensive prowess of Dennis Rodman or "Unleash the Dragon" like Sisqo.

Last season, Kuminga's counting stats improved, as he jumped from 9.9 points to 16 for the 2023-24 season. However, his defensive metrics display Kuminga as an athlete who doesn't make a difference on that side of the ball. It's puzzling for a player with such an athletic burst to lack on the defensive end.

Perhaps last season's defensive indifferent was more of an anomaly than an expectation.

Still, either the hairstyle is a spur of the moment decision, or Kuminga needed to shake up his routine as a means to possibly improve his game. Athletes can showcase superstitious tendencies.

Regardless of his reasoning, the Warriors need Kuminga to figure it out on both sides of the ball for the Stephen Curry-led team to make the playoffs. Likewise, Kuminga's needs to improver for personal reasons.

In a contract year, if he can't improve on defense or become a star on offense, he'll miss on a deal that rivals Franz Wagner or Scottie Barnes, who recently signed maximum rookie contract extensions.

The Warriors loaded up with role players, and refused to trade their young talent. Such loyalty strongly suggests Kuminga owes the Warriors and Curry to prove them right.
