Jets' Allen Lazard Has 'Re-Lit The Fire!'

You will be hard-pressed to find someone who was more disappointed in the New York Jets' 2023 season than receiver Allen Lazard .

After signing a four-year, $44 million deal last offseason to make the switch from Green Bay to New York, Lazard didn't get going...at all. He would total just 311 yards and a touchdown from 23 receptions in 14 games (started 12).

With Aaron Rodgers back, Lazard attacked the offseason and put in good showings in training camp and against the San Francisco 49ers in the season opener, he played his part, catching six passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

"After last season, my biggest thing going into this year was just being healthy and having relit that fire that I once had, especially being an undrafted free agent, being cut twice and having to work my way up to where I am now," Lazard said . "I just wanted to come out here and prove myself again, not necessarily to anyone else, but to myself just knowing that I belong in this league, I belong on this team and I can be a foundation to the success that we have here for a long time."

While Lazard had a bad drop on the Jets' first third down of the game, after that, he bounced back, which was highlighted by a 36-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers that Allen hauled in with New York having to chase the game in the third quarter.

Some might overlook Lazard's performance due to how bad the offense and defense played against the 49ers, but it's a step in the right direction for Allen after woeful 2023.

Now, after a good showing in Week 1, and as the Tennessee Titans come into view in Week 2, he must do it again. With each passing week that Rodgers is under center, the Jets offense will develop cohesion, making the unit function smoother.

And Lazard could be a big beneficiary of that.

His revenge tour has begun nicely.
