Grand opening of Boone County Public Library’s new Walton Branch set for Sept. 29

The Boone County Public Library (BCPL) has set the grand opening of its Walton Branch, located at 13000 Towne Center Drive, for Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m.

Door to the library will be open following a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. and remain open until 5 p.m.

BCPL aims to offer the community more than a place to borrow books with the new state-of-the-art, 25,000 square foot facility. The library hopes to create a vibrant community hub designed to inspire, educate and connect people of all ages.

“The library promotes early literacy, supports education and lifelong learning, ensures the preservation of local history, provides access to information, supports digital inclusion, and acts as a community connector and center,” said Carrie Herrmann, executive director of BCPL.

With its modern architecture, spacious reading areas and cozy nooks, the new branch offers the perfect spot to escape into work or a good book, create in the Boone Innovation Lab, attend special programming and more.

Located in southern Boone County, BCPL’s new library space includes:

• Drive-thru book pickup and book drop
• Outdoor courtyard
• Programming area with natural incline
• Boone Innovation Lab (BIL)
• Internet café
• Computer desks for parent with built-in play area for child
• Indoor fireplace
• Inclusive bathroom with sensory elements and adult changing tables
• Limited wider family parking spots for parents with children in strollers
• Demonstration kitchen
• Solar panels on the roof and a geothermal system to lower electric costs
