Dolphins Backup QB Skylar Thompson Drops 4-Word Reaction to Tua Tagovailoa's Concussion

The Miami Dolphins got blown out by the Buffalo Bills at home on Thursday Night Football, and that wasn't even the biggest reason for their collectively foul mood following the game.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion while diving to pick up a fourth-down during the third quarter, which forced him out of the game and could cost him one, or more, contests in the coming weeks.

It was the fourth concussion Tagovailoa has sustained over approximately the past two calendar years, and it drew an intense reaction from his backup QB Skylar Thompson during the postgame press conference.

"Dolphins QB Skylar Thompson on seeing Tua Tagovailoa go down: 'It makes me sick,'" Albert Breer of MMQB reported via X. "Very somber scene postgame."

Watching Tagovailoa's arm raise up and his fingers clutch, a tell-tale sign that a person has just sustained a concussion, was indeed difficult to stomach for several watching. It also drew questions as to the Dolphins' hopes this season and in years to come.

Tagovailoa's accuracy is crucial to the success of Miami's high-octane offense. And while he was able to walk off the field of his own accord, at some point it is feasible to believe the quarterback will consider how many more concussions he is willing to sustain to remain on an NFL field for up to 17 Sundays each year.

The Dolphins recently signed Tagovailoa to a four-year contract extension worth $212 million that includes $167 million guaranteed and runs through the 2028 campaign. However, it is difficult to fathom that Tagovailoa could continue suffering concussions and make it through the next five seasons in tact.

Miami (1-1) now has 10 days off before traveling to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks on September 22.
