Florida Cheesecake Factory Shut Down After State Inspection - 15 Violations

Floridians who want to sit down and have a meal in a fast-casual eatery have plenty of options. The genre is full of restaurants like Applebee's, Chili's, and Olive Garden to name a couple of options. But one eatery in this genre, a Cheesecake Factory in Boca Raton, was recently temporarily shut down after a state inspection.

About The Cheesecake Factory In Florida: As you might suspect from the name, this chain began its journey as a bakery. However, it would expand to become a fast-casual eatery with 215 stores in the United States and 23 stores in Florida.

Interestingly enough, the chain that started as a bakery is known today for its very large menu - which has been called "legendary" by the publication Vox - since it offers over 250 menu items.

The location in question, at 5530 Glades Road, has been reviewed over 4,900 times and earns 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. For the most part, many reviewers had nice things to say. Bang bang shrimp is praised regularly. A reviewer named Jamie wrote, in part:

"This dining experience was remarkable from start to finish...Our food was delivered efficiently and was incredibly fresh and delicious...Bonnie was such a sweet server..."

However, someone named Michelle recounted a bad experience, writing, in part:

"I am so disgusted with what has happened to this restaurant. I've come to this Cheesecake Factory for years and the downward spiral it's taken is sickening. It's poorly run, understaffed and filthy. We were seated at a table that had food all around the chairs, a fork on the floor, and food crumbs all over the seat. What (on) earth is happening to this place?..."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on August 26, 2024. At that time, 15 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations were the exterior door having a gap that opened to the outside, tongs hanging on a grill handle, in-use utensils being stored in water that was colder than 135 degrees, raw vegetables not being washed before food preparation, and wet wiping clothes not stored in sanitizer while not in use.

High-priority violations came because of cold foods like salsa, corn, and cheese being held over 41 degrees (which resulted in a stop-sale order,) the wiping cloth sanitizer being too high a solution, dented, rusted cans of marshmallow cream (which resulted in a stop-sale order,) and roach activity as evidenced by live roaches.

As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant was temporarily shut down. At a follow-up inspection on August 27, 2024, the restaurant "met inspection standards" and was free to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
