Is Micah's New Leadership Style Working?

FRISCO - Following a disastrous loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs last season, Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons vowed to change the culture of the team.

In the offseason, he reached out to future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady and Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis for advice.

"I kinda went to my mentors this offseason; How do I approach this? How do I get better at this? This is a task I never had to take on in my life," Parsons explained recently. "I think my whole life, I was pretty much, 'Micah is going to do what Micah is going to do.'

“I just expected everyone else to do that. As you learn leadership, some people need a pat on the back and some people need a push up."

Micah continued, "I think it was a harsh reality and a reality check for me within myself and my self-evaluation. I got to do the best that I can, not only to make myself better but bring along other guys, and I feel like I needed that, and I had the conversations early on and you want to strike when the pot’s hot."

These remarks came at the end of Dallas' training camp in Oxnard. Was it just talk? Or would Micah be taking action to make sure his words - often powerful and colorful and clever, but usually pretty "Micah-centric,'' too - would be about others? Is he using his voice to make his teammates better?

The Fish Report offers two examples from Week 1, involving young teammates DeMarvion Overshown and Tyler Guyton, that suggest that he is indeed applying those Brady/Lewis lessons to his own locker room.
