Max Verstappen Responds to Aston Martin Rumors After Newey’s Move

Max Verstappen has been avoiding questions about Aston Martin’s reported interest in signing him up, stating that any Formula 1 team with Adrian Newey on board is “potentially more attractive.” Media buzz about Newey’s switch from Red Bull has been particularly loud before this weekend’s race in Baku.

Red Bull Advisor and designer Adrian Newey was formally introduced to the Aston Martin Formula One team at the manufacturer’s site on Tuesday. From March 2025 he will assume technical leadership duties. The 65-year-old has been responsible for Red Bull’s domination of the sport for the past two decades and his exit is a huge shock for the Red Bull team.

But after Newey joined, many people thought, this Aston Martin was preparing for the next victory. However, according to recent reports, team owner Lawrence Stroll is already aiming for Verstappen to become the leading driver for Aston Martin’s post-2025 plans.

Max Verstappen Unfazed by Speculation

During the press conference at Baku, Max Verstappen did not want to confirm or rebut the speculations of him moving to Aston Martin in the future. He appeared to downplay the likelihood of concerns over leaving Red Bull for another team. Max Verstappen was forced to agree that the possibility of Newey joining Aston Martin might make the team more attractive in the future.

The “Final Piece of the Puzzle” for Aston Martin

Stroll’s decision to sign Newey is seen as a masterstroke, especially after securing a works engine deal with Honda for 2026 earlier this year. Most Formula 1 enthusiasts and stakeholders think that with such an established figure as Newey at the helm, Aston Martin is assembling the puzzle that would allow the team to compete for titles. Max Verstappen understands why Stroll would go all out to secure Newey’s services. While Verstappen expressed some regret over losing Newey, he seemed supportive of the move and the fresh challenge it represents, he stated;

I’m happy for him, it’s a new challenge and I always said I would have loved him to stay, but at one point you can’t overturn these things and you are just happy for people seeking new challenges and I also know that Lawrence is pushing flat out to make it a success with Aston Martin. So it’s quite understandable that he wants to have Adrian on his side.

Verstappen is not ready to ditch his job with Red Bull, the team that has brought him a lot of success. Future prospects of Aston Martin might look quite promising, however, the current world champion is interested in the present season and what it can bring in terms of complications. While claimed that close association with Newey played an important role in his success at the Red Bull, Verstappen seems highly focused and wants to maintain the winning streak in the race.
