It's HERE. Today, Koe Wetzel released his fan-favorite song "Casamigos," which was initially on the tracklist for his recent 9 Lives album, along with an accompanying music video. The song has taken on a life of its own with the fans, and
many were upset when it was replaced on the aforementioned album for Koe’s cover of the late rapper XXXTENTACION’s “Depression & Obsession.” He had already shared a studio teaser that they fell in love with, so I know everyone is super excited to finally have and hear the full song. I suspect there might of been some sort of licensing or legal issue they had to get sorted out with the title, but who knows... It has a great, super catchy  melody and was written by Koe along with Amy Allen, Sam Harris, Ben Burgess and producer Gabe Simon. Lyrically, it finds Koe ruminating on all the things he's sad he lost to his wild ways, though there's one person and relationship he's okay with leaving his life for good. Koe says they wanted to get it right, and that took time, but it's ultimately one of his favorites from the album (and I think the fans agree):
"It took a while to get this song right. I think it changed five or six different times; lyrically, musically, the melody, everything about it. We’d get used to it for a month or so and then we’d change it up again, but once the final was done we knew the song was special. I think going through those ups and downs is one of the reasons why we kept it off the record to begin with, just so it could have its own light and its own time because we’re super happy with the song and now it’s one of my favorites on the record." Directed by Patrick Tohill (who also did “Creeps”), the music video was shot at a lake house in New Jersey, as Koe ends a relationship and starts over in New York City... you even see a cool shot of him visiting Times Square with the Spotify ad for his new aforementioned new album behind him. It's been a while since he put out a song that had this kind of momentum behind it, and I think it's going to put up massive streaming numbers and quickly become a staple in his catalog that fans go back to for years to come. His current (and first) single at country radio, "High Road" with Jessie Murph, has cracked the Top 30, and I could easily see this one becoming the next single should he be interested in continuing to seek out mainstream radio play. I know I'm going to have "Casamigos" on repeat for a while... without further ado, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA_mq8igj1Y
