Ryan Fitzpatrick has some tough love for former teammate Tua Tagovailoa.

The Miami Dolphins quarterback went down in Thursday night's 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, colliding hard with Bills safety Damar Hamlin after a third-quarter run and suffering a head injury. Tagovailoa was immediately taken to the locker room and diagnosed with a concussion, his third diagnosed concussion in the last three seasons.

The injury prompted many across the NFL world to express concern for Tagovailoa's future in the league, especially given the nature of concussions and the possibility of suffering long-term damage with continued head injuries.

Fitzpatrick, who played with Tagovailoa on the Dolphins in the 2020 season, said if it were his son suffering that many concussions he would offer a simple bit of advice -- "it might be time."

"If I'm him, I'm seriously considering retiring from football. If that was my son, it might be time," Fitzpatrick said on the Amazon Prime broadcast of Thursday's game. "I'm not a doctor, but (a concussion) is when your brain is really shutting off. It's happened a couple of times."

The Dolphins have not yet offered more details on Tagovailoa's injury, including how long he may be out. The team has nine days off before facing the Seattle Seahawks on September 22.

The league should not let him play any longer. 3 concussions in less than 2 years. The next one could kill him.

In my own opinion, he shouldn’t even been on the field. This should be his last concussion if he’s smart.
