Arizona Cardinals urged to make wild trade for New York Jets star

The stunning standoff between the New York Jets and pass-rusher Haason Reddick could lead to…a trade to the Arizona Cardinals ?

Somehow, that wouldn’t be the wildest thing to happen around Reddick lately.

Analyzing the NFL trade block ahead of Week 2, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox puts Reddick right in the top spot and says those Cardinals are an ideal potential suitor:

“The Cardinals should be interested in bringing back Reddick, who spent the first four seasons of his career in Arizona. It's worth noting that head coach Jonathan Gannon was Reddick's defensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles during his first Pro Bowl campaign in 2022.”

Bringing back Reddick would be messy on multiple levels. He’s refused to play for the Jets since being traded there in April and requested a trade in August . Now, according to Adam Schefter , he’s racked up $5 million in NFL-mandated fines so far and will lose game checks.

The Cardinals declined the fifth-year option on Reddick’s contract in 2020 and he went on to have a 12.5-sack outburst, then left for the Carolina Panthers, where he posted another 11 sacks. In 2022, he had another 16, then 11 in 2023 after getting a three-year, $45 million deal.

For the Cardinals, getting their former first-round pick back might sound like a good idea. But coughing up an asset to get him, then paying the massive contract he’s holding out over, then hoping he can get in game shape and learn the system quickly enough to make an impact would be a huge gamble.

Still, at this point, little would surprise about happenings around Reddick now.
