It appears that Prince George is carrying on a family tradition—and he's apparently pretty excited about it.

The 11-year-old eldest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly took his very first flying lesson at White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead, Berkshire last week, on the last day of his summer holiday, according to The Sun .

The family reportedly arrived at the airfield in a three-car convoy, after which William and Kate spent time in the clubhouse during George's hour-long tutorial in the skies.

“He loved it," an onlooker told the outlet. "It’s the right time to start.”

George is definitely getting a head start on learning how to fly. While William and Prince Harry are also trained pilots, they didn't begin flying lessons until they were already in the military.

In May, King Charles —another pilot—transferred the role of colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps to William, who has flown for RAF Search and Rescue and East Anglia Air Ambulance.

“The great thing is he’s a very good pilot indeed," Charles said.

William, who started flying fixed-wing aircraft before learning to fly helicopters, admitted this week that he wants to get back in the air.

“I’d love to fly again, I could volunteer for a weekend to make a comeback," he said on a visit to the headquarters of the Wales Air Ambulance headquarters on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Flying is a tradition on Kate's side of the family, as well. Grandfather Peter Middleton flew British Airways jets while her dad, Michael Middleton , studied to become a pilot before working as a flight dispatcher. Mom, Carole Middleton , meanwhile, was a flight attendant.

It will be several decades before Prince George will be King. Maybe by then, the Monarchy will be abolished. It needs to be.
