Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has announced who will assume the team's QB1 role while Tua Tagovailoa is in concussion protocol.

McDaniel said that the Dolphins will proceed with Tua's backup Skylar Thompson.  Wild internet rumors were circulating that had Tom Brady and Ryan Tannehill among others joining the Dolphins, but McDaniel shut that down on Friday.

He said the team will sign a backup for Thompson.  The Dolphins travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in Week 3 on September 22.

McDaniel was also asked about Tua who has no timetable for return.  He said: "The best thing I can do is not assess what this means from a football standpoint." He added: "Timelines give anxiety."

McDaniel also said it is unfair for people to talk about Tua retiring from football.  He understands the concern and origins of the discussion but urges people to refrain from it.

McDaniel said it is Tua's career and livelihood, and it is not appropriate for outsiders or even himself to weigh in.  He emphasizes that he cares about Tua the human being which was obvious last night when the concussion happened and shortly thereafter when McDaniel kissed Tua's head while he was walking off the field.

And yes if Tua or his family had half of a brain his football days should be over. He was stupid last night and it was a dumb move not to slide. So he screws up the whole season for Fans because he wasn’t thinking. Get a different quarterback. I’m loosing faith in McDaniels.
