Lukas Nelson And Sierra Ferrell Release Incredible Bluegrass Cover Of Adele’s “Someone Like You” With The Travelin’ McCourys

An absolute HEATER. Today, Lukas Nelson released a cover of Adele's mega hit "Someone Like You," which features guest vocals from the incredibly talented Sierra Ferrell in addition to them being backed by bluegrass band The Travelin' McCourys. It's the song like you've never heard it before, and they made it sound like a bluegrass dream with the amazing production and perfect vocals. Lukas and Sierra previously performed it at DelFest in Cumberland, Maryland earlier this year with The Travelin' McCourys, and I was truly blown away by the performance. Lukas says that he looks at Adele as the "top echelon of singers and musicians in our generation," and he knew he wanted to take it into the studio pretty much immediately, and thank goodness he did, because this is the best cover I've heard all year and I don't see that changing: "Adele to me is on the top echelon of singers and musicians in our generation. And with Sierra, I just love her voice. It’s the most incredible feeling when I hear it and I respect her musicianship so much and who she is as a person. And then The McCourys are just incredible. We just played it one time and then within an hour they had it down. Being with these guys brings out the best in me." Lukas announced not long ago that after this year, his longtime band Promise of the Real will be on an indefinite hiatus, so it seems that he's already testing out some new stuff and hopefully we'll get to hear more from him sooner rather than later. Of course, "Someone Like You" was written by Adele along with Dan Wilson, and became a huge hit when she included it as the second single for her 2011 second studio album, 21 . It became her first #1 single in the UK, and her second #1 in the U.S. after “Rolling in the Deep.” I've always appreciated her artistry and music, and it really is a gorgeous, simple and stripped-back ballad that launched Adele into superstardom, and I think Lukas and Sierra have done it more than justice. There are few instances when I've thought a country cover of a pop hit like this was not only great, but even necessary or worth doing, but this is certainly the exception and I cannot overstate just how good it is. I mean, even just vocally, I don't know of many other country artists that can touch Lukas or Sierra right now and I just can't get enough.
