Kansas City Chiefs rookie could find himself with a new role when the roster gets healthy

The Kansas City Chiefs just continue to do what you have to do when you're in a dynasty -- draft well. And, they do it just about as well as anyone, if not the best. We have seen it year after year, they find rookies that can contribute to winning football, and this year is no different, specifically with guys like Kingsley Suamataia at left tackle, and Xavier Worthy at wide receiver.

They draft players who can help them win right away, but who can also develop into great players. It's not always just about right now, the future is important, too. And, most importantly, they draft players that are versatile and willing to do whatever it takes to win.

The Chiefs have that in Xavier Worthy, whom we could see have a much different role when the roster gets healthy. Right now, the Chiefs have a great wide receiver room, but it's missing Hollywood Brown, who was just put on IR on Friday.

So, that allows the Chiefs to have a receiver on the team that usually wouldn't be, and maybe one that has the ability to play special teams. So, for now, Worthy is good, and he won't have to do any returning with Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore on the roster.

But when Brown comes back, he could have a new role.

"Oh yeah, he’s (Xavier Worthy) an option," special teams coordinator Dave Toub said. "You know obviously, we want to ease him in, but we really didn’t ease him I guess (laughter). Two touchdowns, so I mean he’s off and running and he’s a guy that, you know – Mecole (Hardman), him, Skyy Moore, all three of those guys I feel comfortable back there as a punt returner.

"He's a guy that, you know, once Hollywood Brown comes back. Now you've got to decide, you know, somebody's got to go down. I don't know who that guy's going to be. Do we know if that might put him back into the mix? We'll see. I mean, you know, but he's a guy that obviously we can go to, and we wouldn't miss a beat with him, for sure."

Worthy certainly has the speed and agility, along with a great sense of twitch, to be able to return kicks and punts, but there is still a question to be realized. When someone is on the return team, they are more susceptible to injury. This risks Worthy, who we have seen this offseason already struggle a bit with injuries, for a potential one.

Or, who knows, he could be perfectly fine. After all, to get hurt, most of the time, you have to get touched by the defender first, and we haven't seen that happen a whole lot in his young career so far, as he scored on his first touch in the NFL against the Baltimore Ravens, with no defender touching him.
