The Kansas City Chiefs will be without their top free agent acquisition for some time.

According to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz, Chiefs WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown will be placed on injured reserve due to his sternoclavicular joint dislocation injury suffered in Week 1 of the preseason. Andy Reid said earlier in the week that Brown would undergo multiple tests , but it appears those tests did not go as Brown or the team had hoped.

"After multiple imaging studies, it was determined that, although Hollywood felt better, his injury was not healing correctly. Without corrective surgery, he would risk a more serious long-term injury. The surgery is scheduled for Monday with Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, CO, and the Chiefs will monitor his rehab progress throughout the season."

At the very least, Brown will be out against the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, and New Orleans Saints. The early BYE week for Kansas City (Week 6) means that the earliest he could return to action is for Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers.

This is the worst-case scenario for Brown and Kansas City. The team hoped that the injury would heal similarly to WR Tyreek Hill, who suffered the same injury back in 2019 and only missed a few weeks. Brown was already tracking to miss the first two weeks of the season, but this could mean that the Chiefs don't see him back on the field until November.

Brown, 26, was signed on a one-year deal during free agency . He was expected to be a big part of the passing game this season. Thankfully, the team has a bevy of pass-catchers to utilize in his place, which they couldn't say just a season ago. Don't expect the team to make a corresponding move so quickly as their roster is relatively healthy outside of this particular injury.
